“What a hot summer it has been,” exclaimed Samantha!
“Agreed,” replied Josefina.
“The pool at our aunt's house closes this weekend, though. I guess fall’s coming.”
“Let's go swimming one last time,” suggests Maryellen.
They gathered their floaties, toys, and surfboards and headed off.
Maryellen and Samantha sat down to sunbathe and read.
“I’m bored” declares Maryellen. “Let’s see if we can knock each other over with a beach ball!”
“OK,” agreed Samantha. “I will knock you over if it is the last thing I do.”
Josefina geared up for surfing. “Surfs up!”
“Are you sure that we can surf in a pool?” Samantha asked.
“We’re about to find out!” Josefina replied.
Maryellen tried to make waves, but got cold and went to sit down. Frustrated, with no waves, Josefina got out too.
They started to pack up but were grateful to get one last chance to go swimming before summer ended. "We’ll just have to think of some other trouble to get into until next summer," sighed Josefina.
The other girls nodded. Good-bye summer.
