Costumes, Candy, and a Misunderstanding

Josefina and Maryellen were excited today. This was the day their Halloween costumes were coming in the mail. "Mail's here!" shouted Maryellen. They both ran outside to get the mail.
Weeks before Halloween Maryellen asked Samantha if she wanted to match costumes with her. “That sounds fun! Sure,” replied Samantha.
Halloween finally came and they both were excited to show off their costumes. Their smiles quickly faded when they came out looking like this:
Maryellen exclaimed, “That is not a princess Peach costume! That is a fruit with a crown!”
“I'm princess Peach,” insisted Samantha. “And you look like you’re princess Aurora!”
It looked like they were going to burst into angry tears, but Josefina dissolved the issue and said, “How about we go trick-or-treating now and get some candy?”
“Hmmf. Fine,” replied Maryellen.
*Ding Dong*
“Oh, what great costumes!” squealed a gumball machine girl.
“Trick-or-treat Molly!” they all said together.
Molly handed them each some pieces of candy, but looked at Samantha curiously and said nothing.

After trick-or-treating at a few other houses, the girls took a candy break. While Maryellen and Samantha were eating candy, Josefina creeped up on them and shouted, “BOO!”
“Ahh!”
“Josefina, how could you?!?” scolded Samantha.
“I thought I saw something glowing behind me. I should have known better,” puffs Maryellen.
What do you do for Halloween? Dress up and trick or treat or go trunk or treating at church?
